Minister Byrne announces selected schools under Physical Activity Pilot Programme

17 June 2024

Minister of State for Sport, Physical Education and the Gaeltacht, Thomas Byrne TD, has today announced the schools selected to take part in a new pilot programme focused on physical activity in teaching and learning.

A total of 24 schools nationwide will receive a grant under the new physical activity pilot programme to support teachers and school leaders in the integration of physical activity in teaching and learning.

Some of the selected projects include: “STEMOLYMPICS - Racing Towards Data Discovery”; “Exploring Our Heritage, A Local History Orienteering Podcast”; and “Promoting Gymnastics through Drama and Music”.

The pilot programme will run over the school year 2024/2025 and a full list of the 24 selected schools is provided below.

Announcing the selected schools, Minister Byrne said:

“The wide range of selected projects under the new physical activity pilot programme illustrates the many ways that physical activity can be used a means of delivering teaching and learning outcomes. The significant number of applications received under the new pilot programme also demonstrates the interest that schools have when it comes to integrating physical activity into the teaching and learning of a curricular or cross-curricular area. I want to sincerely thank every school who applied under the pilot programme and for taking the time to do so. I look forward to seeing the rollout of the 24 selected school projects which will inform our continued work in this area.”

Fógraíonn an tAire Byrne na scoileanna a roghnaíodh faoin gClár Píolótach um Ghníomhaíocht Choirp

17 Meitheamh 2024

D’fhógair an tAire Stáit don Spórt, don Chorpoideachas agus don Ghaeltacht, Thomas Byrne TD, inniu na scoileanna a roghnaíodh chun páirt a ghlacadh i gclár píolótach nua dírithe ar ghníomhaíocht choirp sa teagasc agus san fhoghlaim.

Bronnfar deontas ar 24 scoil ar fud na tíre faoin gclár píolótach nua um ghníomhaíocht choirp chun tacú le múinteoirí agus le ceannairí scoile gníomhaíocht choirp a chomhtháthú sa teagasc agus san fhoghlaim.

I measc na dtionscadal roghnaithe tá: “STEMOLYMPICS – Ag Brostú i dTreo Fionnachtain Sonraí”; “Ár nOidhreacht a Iniúchadh, Podchraoladh Treodóireachta don Stair Áitiúil”; agus “Gleacaíocht a Chur Chun Cinn trí Dhrámaíocht agus Ceol”.

Tarlóidh an clár píolótach le linn na scoilbhliana 2024/2025 agus tá liosta iomlán de na 24 scoil a roghnaíodh ar fáil thíos.

Agus na scoileanna roghnaithe á bhfógairt aige, dúirt an tAire Byrne:

“Léiríonn an raon leathan tionscadal roghnaithe faoin gclár píolótach nua um ghníomhaíocht choirp an iliomad bealaí inar féidir gníomhaíocht choirp a úsáid chun torthaí teagaisc agus foghlama a sholáthar. Léiríonn an líon suntasach iarratas a fuarthas faoi an chlár píolótach nua freisin an spéis atá ag scoileanna gníomhaíocht choirp a chomhtháthú i dteagasc agus i bhfoghlaim réimse curaclaim nó traschuraclaim. Ba mhaith liom mo bhuíochas ó chroí a ghabháil le gach scoil a chuir isteach ar an gclár píolótach agus a ghlac am chuige sin. Táim ag tnúth le rolladh amach na 24 tionscadal scoile roghnaithe a fheiceáil a bheidh mar bhonn eolais dár gcuid oibre leanúnach sa réimse seo.”
